Hedmann’s Campus Card: CFB Week 14 Picks and Predictions

Welcome back to Hedmann’s Campus Card, the unofficial home of split-week betting. In all seriousness, it was another mixed bag for us, with the moneyline and O/U cashing while the spread and gut check came up short. The Mustangs handled Louisville with ease, and WSU/JMU crept over the 42.5 line with a 44 point finish. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech took a potentially season-altering loss to Pitt, and Arkansas fell by two scores to the up-and-down Longhorns.

This week, all our picks come from matchups featuring ranked teams, with both the moneyline and spread bets tied to in-state rivalry games. It is the final weekend of the regular season, and it feels like the right time to take some bigger swings. We are leaning on the teams that have held steady all season and look ready to close strong. Here is this week’s card.

Best Moneyline Bet: Texas A&M Aggies (-134 at Texas Longhorns)

The Aggies have fought hard to protect their unbeaten record, and now they face in-state rival Texas in a showdown that carries real stakes. The Longhorns have been good against bad teams and bad against good teams, and we are betting that trend continues.

There is a strong chance this one is tight, given the rivalry setting and what is on the line for Texas, but the Aggies have both the high-end ability and the late-game toughness that Texas has lacked. Arch Manning has not delivered in the same way. We like A&M to finish off the perfect regular season and send the Longhorns into the offseason with a familiar feeling.

Best Spread Bet: Ole Miss Rebels (-7.5 at Mississippi State Bulldogs)

The Egg Bowl always carries drama, history, and chaos, but this line might be giving the Bulldogs too much benefit of the doubt. Ole Miss is 10-1 and ranked sixth in the country. Mississippi State is 5-6 and just lost to Mizzou’s backup quarterback Matt Zollers.

For entertainment’s sake, a close rivalry game would be fun, but on paper this season tells a different story. We are riding with the Rebels to win comfortably and cover the number.

Best Over Under Bet: Ohio State at Michigan (Over 43.5)

Ohio State has gone over this number in two of the last three games, scoring 48 and 42 in back-to-back weeks. Michigan is a tougher opponent, but thankfully for us, Wolverine points count toward the total too.

Ohio State has not scored fewer than 30 points since September, and Michigan has not been held under 20 since Week 2. Sure, there is a world where this becomes a slugfest, but with the way Ohio State has moved the ball all season, we like this over.

Gut Check Bet: Utah Utes (-11.5 at Kansas Jayhawks)

Utah enters the week ranked 14th, the third highest ranked team in the Big 12. With BYU and Texas Tech both strong favorites, Utah needs an emphatic win to make any real move in the rankings.

Kansas is solid but inconsistent, and Utah has more to play for. Expect a full-throttle effort from the Utes and a comfortable multi-score win that gets the cover.
